Via ferratas in the Tannheimer Tal
Summer activities in Tyrol
Via ferratas can be placed right between sportive climbing and mountaineering and therefore offer the perfect opportunity to experience alpine flair without long experience and a lot of equipment. Several via ferratas run along the Tannheimer Tal's chalk walls up to panoramic heights.
Via ferratas are easy “scramble” tours during which you are secured with a steel rope and climb up the wall via kicks and handles. You are always secured with the harness and the double safety system and can enjoy climbing fun that is usually only reserved for professional climbers (with rope, expresses & co). Around Tannheim you will find several places with wonderful possibilities.
Via ferratas in the Tannheimer Tal
- Salewa via ferrata: from the Islerbahn mountain station walk about 25 minutes to the access
- Köllenspitz via ferrata: moderate to advanced, but scenically very alluring. Follow the signs from Gimpelhaus until you reach Nesselwänger Scharte.
- Friedberger via ferrata: start at Füssener Jöchle and walk to Schartschrofen. An easy to moderate via ferrata.
- Lachenspitze via ferrata: in about 2 hours and an altitude difference from 230 metres you will start at Landsberger Hütte (20mins). Moderate tour that has only been introduced in 2009.
Guided tours and euqipment
The mountain guides from Tannheim Guides are always on hand when it comes to the right choice and guidance. Should this be your first time on a via ferrata, then you should not go without an experienced guide on your side. If you have already climbed in high altitudes but don't have your own gear, you can borrow the equipment there.
If you want to try climbing the fun way, try the ,,Kletterwald'' rope garden with zip-line.
